Smart Valve Installation — Flo by Moen Shut-Off Systems
A burst supply line does not wait for you to get home. It runs at full pressure until somebody closes a valve. A smart shut-off valve is the one device that closes that gap by itself — and we are a Moen Certified Professional, installing Flo by Moen systems across Charlotte, Pineville, Fort Mill, Waxhaw, Matthews and Indian Land.
Moen Certified Professional. Our plumbers are trained and certified by Moen on this equipment, and every installation leaves with the written documentation your insurer will ask for.
The difference between a wet floor and a rebuilt ground floor is usually measured in hours. A monitored shut-off watches the main, learns what normal water use in your house looks like, and closes the supply on its own when the flow stops making sense — whether you are upstairs, at work, or away for the week.
What a smart shut-off valve actually does
It sits on the main line where the water enters the house, so everything downstream of it is covered — every fixture, every appliance, every run inside a wall or under a slab. Three things happen from there.
It measures. Flow rate, pressure and temperature, continuously. After a couple of weeks it knows the signature of a shower, a dishwasher, an irrigation zone and a running toilet, so it can tell an unusual pattern from a normal one.
It warns you. A toilet flapper passing water at two in the morning, a hose bib left cracked open, a pressure reading climbing towards the point where fittings start failing — you get a notification on your phone rather than finding out on the bill three weeks later.
It closes the valve. When flow continues past what could reasonably be a fixture in use — a split supply hose, a burst pipe, a failed water heater — it shuts the main automatically. You can also close it from the app from anywhere, which is the feature people use most when they are away for a week.
Why we fit Flo by Moen
We are a Moen Certified Professional, which means our plumbers are trained and certified by the manufacturer on this equipment specifically. That matters in two places you cannot see from a product page: the install is done to the specification the warranty is written against, and a support or warranty question three years from now is a phone call rather than an argument about who fitted it.
We are not tied to it. If your house needs a different approach — a well system, a layout where the main is genuinely inaccessible, a property where a pressure problem should be solved first — we will tell you that before you buy anything.
What the installation involves
Most installations are a half-day job. We isolate the supply, cut the valve into the main downstream of the meter and the pressure reducing valve, make the connections, and pressure test the joint. Then we power it, connect it to your wi-fi, run the calibration cycle with you, and set the app up on your phone before we leave.
If the main is somewhere awkward — a tight crawl space, a garage wall that needs power run to it, an older house where the shut-off itself is seized — we deal with that as part of the job and quote it up front. We do not leave a smart device fitted to a valve that no longer turns.
Documentation for your insurance discount
Most carriers offer a premium reduction for a monitored automatic shut-off device, and most of them will not apply it on a phone call. They want proof of what was installed and who installed it.
So you get a written record from us as standard: the make, model and serial number of the device, the date, the address, the licence numbers of the plumber who fitted it, and photographs of the completed installation. Send it to your agent as it is. If they come back wanting it in a particular format, tell us and we will produce it — it costs us ten minutes and it is worth real money to you every year.
Where we install them
Charlotte, Pineville, Matthews, Waxhaw and the rest of South Charlotte and Union County, plus Fort Mill, Indian Land and the Lake Wylie side of the state line. We are licensed in both Carolinas, so the border is not a boundary for us.

Smart Valve Installation — questions we get asked
Will it really shut the water off on its own?
Yes. Once it has learned your normal usage it closes the main automatically when flow continues past anything a fixture could account for — a split washing machine hose, a burst pipe, a water heater that has let go. You can also close it yourself from the app from anywhere, which is what most people use when they are away.
Where does it get installed?
On the main line where water enters the house, after the meter and the pressure reducing valve, so everything in the property sits downstream of it. Around here that is usually a crawl space, a garage wall or a basement. We look at the location before quoting, because the access is what decides whether it is a straightforward half day or something more involved.
Do I actually get an insurance discount?
That is between you and your carrier and it varies — but a monitored automatic shut-off is one of the discounts most home insurers list, and several will not apply it without documentation. We give you the model, serial number, install date, our licence numbers and photos of the finished work, which is what an agent or adjuster asks for.
What happens if the wi-fi or the power goes out?
The valve keeps monitoring and can still close on its own — the internet connection is for alerts and remote control, not for the protection itself. It holds an internal battery, and it tells you when it has lost connection, so a dead device is never quietly doing nothing.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
Most installations are a half day, and the price depends on the device and on what the pipework at the main looks like. We quote a flat price on site after we have looked at it, the estimate is free, and nothing starts until you have approved the number in writing.
Can you fit one in a house that already has a leak problem?
We would find and fix the leak first. A smart valve is protection against the failure you have not had yet — it is not a substitute for repairing a system that is already failing. We will tell you straight which of the two you are looking at.
