Drain Cleaning for South Charlotte Homeowners
A drain that has slowed over a few weeks and a drain that stopped this morning are usually two different problems. The first is nearly always build-up on the pipe wall; the second is an object, a root intrusion, or a blockage further down the main. We find out which before we start, because cabling a line that needed jetting just moves the problem a month down the road.
How we clear a drain
For kitchen and lavatory branches we cable first — it is quick, cheap and usually enough. For a main line, a recurring blockage, or anything with grease in it, we jet: high-pressure water scours the full diameter of the pipe rather than punching a hole through the middle of the clog.
If a line has blocked twice in a year we put a camera down it before quoting anything else. Roots at a joint, a bellied section holding water, or crushed clay pipe all look identical from the fixture and need completely different fixes.
What causes most of the drains we clear
In newer Union County homes it is almost always kitchen build-up — grease that cooled in a long horizontal run. In older Charlotte neighbourhoods it is far more often roots finding a joint in a clay or cast-iron lateral, which is a seasonal problem that comes back on its own schedule until the pipe is repaired.

Drain Cleaning — questions we get asked
How much does drain cleaning cost?
It depends on which line and what is in it — a slow bathroom sink and a blocked main are different jobs. We quote a flat price on site after we have looked, and the estimate is free. You approve the number before we start.
Should I try a chemical drain cleaner first?
We would rather you did not. Caustic cleaners rarely clear a full blockage, they sit in the trap eating at older pipe, and they make the line genuinely hazardous for whoever opens it next. A plunger and hot water, yes. Chemicals, no.
My drain keeps blocking every few months. Why?
A blockage that returns on a schedule is a sign of a defect in the pipe, not a cleaning problem — usually roots at a joint, or a section that has settled and now holds water. A camera inspection tells you which in about twenty minutes, and then you can fix it once instead of clearing it four times a year.
